Ike passes through, me unscathed

We'll Ike came through my town and besides the high winds and light rain lasting all night, I made it just fine. I'm glad Ike was more bark than bite, because i was nervous in it.

It's 1:30 pm now and the sun is shining and this sunday i feel is gonna be a short day. I'm not saying i'm not going to enjoy it's just going to be short that's all.

For every one that just started to read my blog, i am going to backtrack alittle and tell every one how a tent in a campershell started. About 2 years after i got my truck, i started to research camping alternatives. I knew from experience that sleeping in a tent was not the ideal comfortable solution when camping, with cold moist ground making your tent floor cold as well as the high cold drafts and winds blowing through the tent fabric or even uprooting your tent stakes. So I decided to think of a way to camp comfortably and i had seen campers on the back of pickup trucks and so i decided that was the answer. Making my truck into a mobile house camper. I did extensive research on it from thinking of buying one used to actually finding plans on the internet to buy and build my own, But the more i looked into it the less promising it became and i learned 3 problems i would face. The first major problem was i wanted a camper sitting on the bed of my truck with all the amenemities ex: shower, toilet, fridge, microwave, tv, ect.. ect.. ect.. and with every thing i wanted came at a price and that was weight. My half ton pick up truck would not be able to carry the camper around full time without stripping the transmission or wearing out the engine not to mention breaking an axle. My half ton would just not be able to handle all that weight and i did not want to buy another 3/4 ton or 1 ton vehicle so i decided to use my existing campershell and figure out a way to make it livable without a shower or built in toilet so that is what i did. The other major obstacles was the getting outside every time to move the truck as well as security and fire saftey issues with the door being on the back of the bed of the truck and the last major obstacle was that it was not stealth carrying a big camper on the bed of a truck everyone knows your living in it and parking stays would be short lived with the police present. Anyway so i took my campershell and examined it and the bed of my truck it was all rusted and i noticed a gap between my the bed of my truck the tailgate.. i was like omg snake spider and mostly mosquitoes could get in so i was like i have to figure out a way to keep the pests out and eventually the tent inside a camper shell was born not only did it have screens to ward off mosquitoes and pests but it would make a nice interior room inside my hard cover fiberglass and campershell. I never knew if it was going to work because most tents require stakes and there was no way i could stake tent pegs in the metal floor of my bed but when i set it up outside and shoved it in the bed of my truck i knew then i didnt need stake the tent poles had enough tension to keep everything formed and thats how the tent was born in a campershell.. :)

Ike is almost Here !! Gas Prices suck! 4.00 a Gallon

Well, its 4:00 pm now and its getting dark from ike moving through. Should be getting some rain and hopefully no flooding or tornadoes, still don't think its gonna be as bad as Texas. My camper truck is gonna safely be parked under sometype of roof havent deciced what yet because of the leak. I also need to clean it out, wipe it down with paper towels and bleach and spray disenfectant in it, just as soon as i find my disinfectant. lol. The Tent is lopsided now in my campershell and im not really concerned about it as long as the top part stays up. I have all the windows covered with fabric ex. blankets, towels, and the back glass is covered with 2 suction type shower hooks and a metal mop handle that i broke off and made into curtain rod. The curtains is 2 panels that i bought at Walmart for my apt before i moved out. Mly campershell has inside it water bottles, gatorade bottle or piss bottle, air conditioner that i cant nor will ever use till next summer, a microwave that will only work when im at a campsite, and a portable bucket toilet with scented garbage bags in it for emergencies only. I usually cook my foods at convient stores or hospitals and my showers are usually done at truck stops. I would much rather prefer a camper van or even a conversion or cargo van but right now that is so far off financially that i cant even imagine it. I have been a vandweller enthusiast for 1 year now and i have learned alot about road side vehicles from pick up campers to Vans to Trailers and i think vans would suite my needs and situation very well. But, this truck camper shell will have to do untill i can get a decent steady job.

What have i been up to if i haven't been working that much you ask ? LoL We'll good question the last few days i have been checking out dvds at the library and watching them as well as reading books on Wi-Fi, Wardriving, Netstumbler and Job Hunting.

I watched this one dvd called "Alone in the Woods" with Dick Promeneke. It showed how he moved to alaska and built his own cabin out of spruce wood with only bare tools in 1968 and how he lived up there for 20 something years living off the land. It reminded me of another Blog Hobostripper who lives in Alaska where she talks about how much better it is to live there than the States. The movie made me feel like a boy with freedom. I dont think Dick Promeneke ever bought his land just moved on it and built there. Pure Heaven to me if i could stand the cold tempatures.

I also read a good book entitled "What Color is your Parachute" by Richard Nelson Bolles. The book was published in 2002 and it really had some great excersises in finding the skills you need to really have that career you always wanted. Very practical and Goal orientied not like some of the other boring job hunting books. I still havent finished reading it but i think i will buy it the first chance i get.

Ambient music can really bring a nice calm state of mind..

Sorry for the long post everyone, I am not really good at grammar or writing. So i have not posted lately. I have had so much that has been going on with me that all the bad stuff worked itself out and the rest just became a faded blur.

I have been sleeping really well in the camper now that it has turned cool. The fiberglass really blocks out the wind nicely, as for the rain i have been fortunate enough to park under a overpass and that has sheltered me from the rain scince my fiberglass campershell had been leaking..

Anyway, I have been invited to the rainbow gathering in Thayer, Mo. I really want to go, but right now with all the rain this last week it has put a damper on my finances. The good news is the gathering isn't untill October so i have plenty time to save.

I went and seen the X-file movie at the theatres, it was disappointing. The movie's plot was not even remotely original and it didn't even tie in with the first movie, Neverless i went, what a waste of money...

On a good note, i remember going to http://wwww.hos.com/ and really liking there music programs they have, and on sunday they let you listen free. So i powered up my laptop and scince its sunday, i have really been chilling and relaxing to the atmospheric ambient music. A bowl of light is the program i listened to, I highly recommend it.. Anyway, going to get something to eat at the homeless shelter.
